Jiří Žáček is a Czech poet who has earned great recognition through his grasp of the essence of life and a poetic style refined over many years. In his new collection of poems, he explores serious themes, which he presents in his characteristically playful way through situations that many of us have either experienced or can relate to. The 256-page book Poems and Non-Poems was published in 2025 by the Šulc-Švarc publishing house. Painter Josef Velčovský complemented the final collection of poetry with a combination of illustrations and paintings that correspond with the lyrical text, together forming a book suitable for admirers of both literature and the art of painting. Mr. Velčovský has been devoted to book illustration for many years, and over his lifetime has enriched more than 70 books with his work.
