The book ANIMA was written by Czech painter Jaromír Vondra

Czech writer and painter Jaromír Vondra published his second book, ANIMA, in 2023. It is a work that closely intertwines several major forms of art into a single narrative, all set within a political landscape. Through this article, Mr. Vondra is given the opportunity to express, in his own words, what his book ANIMA means to him:

I would first like to thank all of my readers, whose responses have touched me deeply and always will.

What does this book mean to me? The word Anima means Soul in Latin, and art reveals itself to each person in countless forms, all of which can be experienced within a single moment. Yet what that moment is able to become, and what shape it ultimately takes, is determined by one's own soul. In such moments, we stand indescribably close to every day we have lived, even though everything unfolds only within us. It is like running through a forest without stepping on a single blade of grass.

I grew up with what I wrote in this book, and I believe I will grow old with it as well. I wanted to reveal the bond between the artist and art itself, as well as the environment through which anyone devoted to Creation must inevitably pass. Above all, I hoped to leave the reader with the understanding that many things, events, and works do not come into being despite something great and difficult, but because of something great and difficult. Whenever I remember this, I feel liberated. In the midst of every night and every moment of the day, a work continues to emerge until, at last, it spreads out like a shore made of glass. At that moment, it becomes memory.

Looking back, I know only that every thought I ever had helped shape the final form of this work, and every personal experience guided it toward its definitive expression. At that time, I decided that this expression would be ANIMA.
